KHS Wins Gold ADDY® Award for Web Site
FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky Historical Society Web site, www.history.ky.gov, has been recognized with a Gold ADDY® award in the category of Consumer HTML/Other Web Site. The awards were given out on Saturday, February 24, in Lexington. Organized by the Lexington Advertising Club, the ADDY® Awards highlight the best creative work being produced in the central Kentucky area.
The Web site was created by Elevation Creative Studios of Lexington, an award-winning full service creative firm providing brand development, Web consulting and development, advertising and marketing design and tradeshow exhibit consulting and sales. Elevation’s clients include very noticeable names covering a diverse range of industries across the United States and elsewhere in the world.
“We were, of course, very excited about the award, but we were even more excited about the added recognition and attention for the Kentucky Historical Society. We are honored to be a part of their efforts to continue the growth and immeasurable value they provide to the entire state,” says Dave Wilson, Partner and Marketing Director of Elevation Creative Studios.
Visitors to the KHS Web site at www.history.ky.gov can explore a wide variety of features, content, and services, such as an online exhibit of the Toyota Kentucky Hall of Governors, conduct family history and genealogical research using KHS databases, view KHS’s calendar of events, and plan a visit to the Kentucky Historical Society’s History Campus, which includes the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, the Old State Capitol, and the Kentucky Military History Museum. Visitors can also sign up for KHS’s monthly e-newsletter by submitting their e-mail address on any page of the Web site.
“We are very excited to win this Gold ADDY® Award for the Kentucky Historical Society Web site,” says Kent Whitworth, executive director of KHS. “The Web site is another valuable tool that assists KHS in providing connections to the past, perspective on the present, and inspiration for the future.”
“It is easy to create nice designs when you are genuinely excited about the subject. Add to that a client that allows you the freedom to explore ideas and take risks and you have an inspired finished product,” says Chris Gowin, Partner and Art Director of Elevation Creative Studios.
This is the second consecutive year that a Kentucky Historical Society project has been recognized by the Lexington ADDY® Awards. In 2006, a 30-second television spot, created by Element Studio for KHS, was recognized with a Silver ADDY®. Sponsored by the American Advertising Federation, the ADDY® Awards honor excellence in advertising and cultivate the highest creative standards in the advertising industry. Local winners, including the Kentucky Historical Society’s Web site, proceed to 14 regional competitions, and those winners proceed to the national finals.
An agency of the Kentucky Commerce Cabinet, the Kentucky Historical Society, since 1836, has provided connections to the past, perspective on the present, and inspiration for the future. KHS operates the Old State Capitol, the Kentucky Military History Museum, and its headquarters, the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. Since 1999, the thirty-million-dollar Center has welcomed more than one million visitors.
