FRANKFORT, Ky. (September 15, 2004) – On Wednesday, October 20, the Kentucky Historical Society’s monthly program, Tea Time Tours will feature the “murder and mayhem” of Frankfort. The tea, which begins at noon and lasts until approximately 1:30 p.m., features a light lunch and a specialty tea. Following is a special program with Russ Hatter, Frankfort’s Assistant Curator of Historic Sites, who will explore the unspoken side of Frankfort’s past.
In May 2002, the first Tea Time Tours was held. Over the past two years, the program has grown and on four occasions, has been sold out. Due to its overwhelming success, the September tea offered two seatings, both which sold out quickly with a total attendance of more than 120 guests. Julia Curry, Special Events Manager commented, “The interest in this program is phenomenal. It is an opportunity for guests to enjoy a light lunch and tea, make new friends and a chance to get reacquainted with the Historical Society, its museums and programs.”
Past programs have included a musical tribute to Maysville native, Rosemary Clooney, Dr. Thomas D. Clark and Margaret A. Lane with their book, The People’s House: Governor’s Mansion of Kentucky, special theatre presentations, the Civil Rights movement in Kentucky and many other historic moments of Kentucky’s past.
Upcoming features for the Society’s Tea Time Tour program include:
October 20, Noon to 1:30 p.m., “Murder and Mayhem” in Frankfort exploring the not-so-often-spoken side of the Capital’s historic past in a small two-block area. Menu includes mini-Quiches, Fall Apple Salad, Rotisserie-style Chicken, Buttered Peas, Creamed Potatoes, Rolls, Pumpkin Brownies, Iced Tea and Lemon Herbed Tea.
- November 10, Noon to 1:30 p.m., “Kentucky’s Best Storyteller” with Byron Crawford who will bring his view on Kentucky’s people, places and folkways that have become an everyday part of Kentucky life for many years. Menu includes Italian Dip and Chips, Caesar Salad, sliced Tomatoes with Mozzarella Cheese and Basil, Lasagna, Italian Bread, Cheesecake, chilled Sangria Tea and hot tea.
- December 8, Noon to 1:30 p.m., “Season's Readings: A Kentucky Christmas Collection” when remembrances of holidays past and present come to life through a collection of readings from the pens of Kentucky’s great writers.
