Governor Ernie Fletcher Appoints Member to the Kentucky Commission on Women
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has appointed Elaine J. Corbitt, of Ashland, to the Kentucky Commission on Women.
Corbitt is vice president of marketing and community services for King’s Daughters Medical Center. She received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University. Corbitt is chairman of the First Christian Church of Ashland Board of Directors. She is a member of the board of directors for the Community Kitchen, Neighbors Helping Neighbors and the Highland Museum and Discovery Center and is married to Stephen W. Corbitt.
The Kentucky Commission on Women is mandated to promote, encourage and provide advisory assistance in the establishment of local volunteer community improvement programs for, and in the interest of, women. The commission consults with the Governor on important women’s issues and cooperates with the federal government and with the governments of other states in programs relating to women.
In addition, the commission is dedicated to elevating the status of women and girls in the Commonwealth, empowering them to overcome barriers to equity and expanding opportunities to achieve their fullest potential.
Pat A. Freibert serves as chairwoman of the commission. Glenda Haney-Woods serves as executive director.
