FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has appointed Wayne Hunt, of Herndon, to the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation Board of Directors.

Hunt is the president and chairman of Agri-Chem, Inc. and Agri-Power, Inc., vice president of Agri-Corp Insurance, LLP and the owner of Hunt Farms.  Hunt is chairman of the Western Kentucky Regional Agricultural Technology Foundation and past-president of the Christian County Agri-Business Association.  He is a member of the AgriBusiness Association of Kentucky, the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.  He is married to Linda Jane Fuller.

The Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation Board of Directors governs the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation, which was created by statute in 1984.  The board is made up of 12 members, 10 of whom are appointed by the Governor. The other two members are the commissioner of the Department of Agriculture, who serves as chair, and the secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet.

In 2002, the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, as part of the Long-term Plan for Agriculture Development, recommended that the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation be restructured to provide capital access for agricultural diversification and infrastructure projects.  In keeping with that priority, the corporation was awarded Agricultural Development Funds in July 2003 to accomplish its mission.

During the 2004 General Session House Bill 146 was approved, moving the administration of the corporation to the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy. This legislation also moved the administration of the Linked Deposit Investment Program into the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation.
