Governor Fletcher Appoints State Geographer

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has appointed Scott A. Dobler, of Bowling Green, as Kentucky’s state geographer.

Dobler is a geography professor at Western Kentucky University.  He received a bachelor’s degree in geography from Morehead State University and a master’s degree in geography from Bowling Green State University.  Dobler is a member of the Kentucky Science Teachers Association and the Kentucky Council for Social Studies.  He is married to Kim Dobler.

The state geographer is appointed annually by the governor.  The state geographer must hold a graduate degree in geography from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate a professional knowledge of Kentucky geography through teaching and/or research activities.
