Gov. Beshear Recognizes Sacrifices of 2 Fort Campbell Soldiers
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear today recognized the sacrifices of two Fort Campbell soldiers who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Scott R. Studenmund and Staff Sgt. Jason A. McDonald died June 9 in Gaza Village, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered while engaged in a combat operation. The incident is under investigation.
Staff Sgt. Studenmund, 24, of Pasadena, California; and Staff Sgt. McDonald, 28, of Butler, Georgia; were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell.
The Governor will order that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of interment for each soldier, for which arrangements are still pending.
