Gov. Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff Today in Honor of a Fort Campbell Soldier

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff today in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Pfc. Matthew H. Walker, 20, of Hillsboro, Missouri, died June 5 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by enemy fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Services for Pfc. Walker will be at 11 a.m. CDT today at Manchester United Methodist Church in St. Louis, Missouri, with interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute of lowering the flag in honor of Pfc. Walker.
