FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sundown on Friday, July 27, 2012 in honor of the victims of the Aurora, Colorado shooting tragedy last week.

Gov. Beshear has also spoken personally with Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado to extend the Commonwealth’s sympathies and prayers to the citizens of Aurora.

“Last week’s incident at the movie theatre in Aurora was an unprecedented and unspeakable tragedy,” said Gov. Beshear.  “Kentucky stands to honor the victims of this attack, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and all others who were affected by the horrific act.”

This order follows a proclamation from President Barack Obama last week ordering the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings to honor the victims.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
