Gov. Beshear Awards over $600,000 in Land and Water Conservation Grants
FRANKFORT, KY – Gov. Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Department for Local Government (DLG) and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Advisory Committee, today announced the award of seventeen LWCF grants totaling $637,381.
The LWCF is a grant matching reimbursement program for the development and maintenance of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities such as campgrounds, sports and playfields, swimming and fishing areas, boating facilities and trails.
“Creating and maintaining recreational resources across our commonwealth enhances tourism opportunities and stirs economic development during these especially difficult times,” said Gov. Beshear. “Providing quality recreational spaces also allows Kentuckians to live healthier, more active lifestyles and improves the overall quality of life of our communities.”
Administered by DLG, funds for this program are allocated to Kentucky by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior. Cities, counties, state and federal agencies are eligible to apply.
