Governor Beshear Appoints Members to KATS Network Advisory Council
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 22, 2008) – Governor Steve Beshear has appointed the following members to the Kentucky Assistive Technology Service (KATS) Network Advisory Council to serve for terms expiring March 31, 2009:
- Toyah L. Robey, of Harrodsburg, is a programs and services branch manager for the Kentucky Department of Education. She represents a state education agency. The appointment replaces Preston O. Lewis, whose term has expired.
- Russell L. Salsman, of Louisville, is the executive director of the Office of Employment and Training in the Kentucky Education Cabinet. He represents the Department for Workforce Development. The appointment replaces Andrew J. Frauenhoffer, whose term has expired.
- Jenny Tyree, of Louisville, is an assistive technology administrator for the Office of the Blind. She represents the Office of the Blind. The appointment replaces Sue Gail Simon, whose term has expired.
- Ed A. Schickel, of Bardstown, is a retired chemical dependency therapist. The appointment replaces Jim Booth, whose term has expired.
- Kathryn McGee, of Edgewood, is an independent artist. The appointment replaces Jeffrey Lederer, whose term has expired.
- Vivian E. Lasley, of Pineville, is a special needs educator for the Bell County School District. The appointment replaces Cindy Pisa, whose term has expired.
- Christine Fiore, of Scottsville, is a member of the Simpson County Homemakers and the Simpson County Literacy Clubs. The appointment replaces Bobbie Scoggins, whose term has expired.
The governor has also reappointed the following members to the council to serve for terms expiring March 31, 2009:
- Sharli Powell Rogers, of Bowling Green, is the executive director of the BEST Center for Independent Living. She represents a state center for independent living.
- Norb Ryan, of Versailles, is the state Americans with disabilities Act coordinator. He represents other state agencies, public agencies or private organizations.
- Stephen David Matheis, of Louisville, is the program planning and development branch manager for the Office of the Vocational Rehabilitation. He represents the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
- Matthew B. Davis, of Bowling Green, is a university administrator at Western Kentucky University.
- Joe L. Cowan, of Monticello, is an instructional specialist at Somerset Community College.
- Elizabeth B. Schomaker, of Taylor Mill, is a nurse anesthetist at the Shriner’s Burns Institute for the University Anesthesia Associates.
- Sharon S. Fields, of Frankfort, is the executive director of the Board of Elections.
The KATS Network Advisory Council consists of 14 gubernatorial appointees. Along with the coordinating center staff, the council helps coordinate the implementation of statewide capacity building and advocacy initiatives regarding the availability of assistive technology.
These organizations change for the enhancement of access to assistive technology for Kentuckians with disabilities and are designed to work toward permanent systems. They constitute the KATS Network, providing consumer responsive, comprehensive, statewide programs of technology-related assistance for individuals with disabilities of all ages.
