Governor Beshear Appoints Members to Kentucky Humanities Council

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear has appointed the following members to the Kentucky Humanities Council to serve for terms expiring Jan.1, 2012:

  • Karen C. McDaniel, of Frankfort, is a professor at Eastern Kentucky University. She received her Doctorate of History from the University of Kentucky. The appointment replaces Kenneth R. Hixson, whose term has expired.
     
  • Howard V. Roberts, of Pikeville, is the division chair of business and economics and a professor of business at Pikeville College. The appointment replaces Mary C. Farrell, whose term has expired.
     
  • Reed Polk, of Lexington, is a retired administrator of the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. He currently works as a commentator for WKYT TV. The appointment replaces Wayne B. Yeager, who term has expired.
     
  • Suzanne D. Rose, of Owensboro, is the chairperson of the English Department and an assistant professor of English at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The appointment replaces Bruce B. Pope, whose term has expired.

The governor has reappointed Aristofanes Cedeno to serve as a member of the board.

  • Cedeno, of Louisville, is the executive director of the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program and an associate professor of Spanish at the University of Louisville. He shall serve for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2012.

The Kentucky Humanities Council is a 23 member volunteer board consisting of college and universities humanities faculty and members from the public at large. Five at large members are appointed by the governor.

The council is an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities in Washington, D.C. It is supported by the National Endowment and by private contributions and is not a state agency and does not receive state funding.
