  • Governor Beshear Participates in Ribbon Cutting for Bruss North America’s Corporate Headquarters Expansion in Russell Springs

    Joined by company and community leaders, Gov. Steve Beshear today participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commence the expansion of Bruss North America’s corporate headquarters in Russell Springs. The German-owned company, which specializes in the manufacturing of sealing systems for transmissions and engines, has invested $10 million and is currently in the process of adding more than 100 new jobs at the plant.

  • State offices to close Friday for first furlough day

    State offices will be closed on Friday, Sept. 3, as part of the state’s budget balancing plan to furlough state government workers a total of six days in Fiscal Year 2011, as authorized by the 2010-12 biennial budget passed by the General Assembly. The furloughs are estimated to save taxpayers approximately $24 million, as well as prevent laying off more than 400 state employees.

  • Governor Beshear Announces Olympic Steel Inc. to Locate New Manufacturing Facility in Mount Sterling

    Gov. Steve Beshear today announced Olympic Steel Inc., a national metals service center, will locate its new manufacturing facility in Mount Sterling. The company has purchased a 100,000 square-foot facility, located at 3379 Owingsville Road, to perform plate burning, machining, forming and shot blasting. The facility, which is expected to be operational during the first quarter of 2011 and create up to 20 new jobs, represents a phased capital investment of $11.2 million.
  • Governor Beshear Announces Start up and Expansion of Two Kentucky Research and Development Companies

    Gov. Steve Beshear today announced two research and development companies will create 25 new jobs and invest nearly $2.4 million in the Commonwealth. Remington Arms Company Inc., the nation’s oldest continuously operating manufacturer of shotguns, rifles and ammunition, will invest $1.5 million to locate part of its firearms research and development into its Elizabethtown facility. The expansion will create 15 new jobs, 13 of which are considered high-tech and technical support jobs with an average annual salary of approximately $59,500, exclusive of benefits.
  • Gov. Beshear announces awards of nearly $4 million to aid law enforcement

    Gov. Steve Beshear today announced the award of 70 federal and state grants totaling nearly $4 million to police departments, sheriffs’ departments and other criminal justice agencies across the Commonwealth. The grant money will help police officers and criminal justice professionals protect citizens against drunken driving, drugs and other crimes. All grant awards run July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011.

    Governor Steve Beshear announced today that he signed a death warrant for convicted killer Gregory Wilson, setting his execution date for Sept. 16. Wilson’s case is one of three submitted by the Attorney General, but a delay in the production of one of the drugs in the lethal injection protocol has postponed signing the remaining two warrants.

    Surrounded by community leaders, legislators and local officials, Governor Steve Beshear today announced nearly $151 million in state approved transportation and infrastructure projects for the Fort Knox region. The projects will support the communities in accommodating the growth expected from the federal Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission’s 2005 decision to realign to Ft. Knox.
