Governor Fletcher Approves Funding for White Sulphur ATV Trail
Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development
(GOLD) announced today a $20,500 Recreational Trails grant for the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Morehead Ranger District has been
recommended for funding by the administration.
“ATV trails are growing in popularity as a recreational pastime,” said Governor Fletcher. “This funding will be used to perform maintenance for the White Sulphur trail in Bath County in order to make the trail safer for those who use it.”
Recreational Trails funds will be used for maintenance and improvements to the White Sulphur ATV trailhead and system trails.
“Trails are an important part of the outdoor recreational opportunities available for many citizens,” said Senator R.J. Palmer. “Bath County residents will enjoy the improvements.”
Representative Carolyn Belcher stated, “This funding is important for individuals who utilize White Sulphur trail as part of their recreation. It will improve the quality of the experience they have while riding the trail.”
The Recreational Trails Program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and may be used to acquire land for recreational trails and to develop and renovate trails for both motorized and non-motorized use. Recreational Trails funding is administered by the Governor’s Office for Local Development.
