Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) today announced a $96,217 Renaissance on Main grant for the city of Scottsville.  Funding will be used for a streetscape project.

“The Renaissance on Main program is important to many cities across the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Governor Fletcher.  “As the first round of funding awarded by my administration for this program, I am excited to see the continued development of our historic downtowns.  The commitment of Scottsville to their downtown is evident through the hard work of the community leaders.”

This funding will be used to improve the streetscape of Scottsville’s downtown area.  The improvements have the potential of creating 27 jobs and possibly assist in attracting other industry to the area.

“Downtowns create a distinct atmosphere for any city,” stated Senator Ritchie Sanders, Jr.  “I applaud Scottsville for their efforts of beautification and economic development through the Renaissance on Main program.”

Renaissance on Main, formerly Renaissance Kentucky, is a downtown revitalization effort that provides communities funding in order to restore and maintain their downtown areas.  The program is focused on economic development and job creation.  There are two levels of cities:  Certified and Candidate.  Scottsville is a Certified Renaissance on Main city.

Representative Rob Wilkey said, "I've been working on these sorts of grants for most of the last decade, since the program was called the "Heart of Scottsville," and I'm pleased to play a role in giving a boost to the vitality of downtown Scottsville."

Governor Fletcher presented the funding on Thursday, October 13 at the Allen County Public Library in Scottsville.

The Renaissance on Main program is a partnership of the Kentucky Heritage Council/Main Street Program, the Kentucky Department of Tourism, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Kentucky League of Cities, the Kentucky Housing Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and the Governor’s Office for Local Development, the agency responsible for administering the program.
