| Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) announced today a $50,000 Recreational Trails grant for Rowan County. The funds will help develop the Rowan County Big Woods Neighborhood Trails Program.
This project will enhance the existing Rowan County Big Woods Neighborhood by providing recreational opportunities for the residents of eastern Rowan County. New amenities will include an asphalt trail, educational signs, benches and trash receptacles. The path will give residents the opportunity to enjoy walking, jogging, bicycling, in-line skating and skate boarding.
“With the fast pace of most Kentuckians’ daily lives, convenient access to recreational facilities is extremely important,” Governor Fletcher said. “I’m pleased to see that even more residents of Rowan County will have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy lifestyle in their own community.”
The Recreational Trails Program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and may be used to acquire land for recreational trails and to develop and renovate trails for both motorized and non-motorized use. Recreational Trails funding is administered by the Governor’s Office for Local Development.
