Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) today announced a $10,000 Flex-E-Grant for Powell County.  Funding will be used to develop a tourism plan.

“The Flex-E-Grant allows cities and counties to develop a plan.” said Governor Fletcher.  “This funding will allow Powell County, in conjunction with the city of Stanton and Clay City, to analyze future expansion of the tourism at Red River Gorge.  This future development will allow tourists staying at Red River Gorge to bike to and from Clay City.”

Powell County will develop a tourism plan for cyclists linking Clay City to Red River Gorge.

Powell County already generates tourism dollars because of Natural Bridge and the Red River Gorge.  With this study, the community can maximize their tourism dollars.  I know this is a great start to increase economic development,” stated Senator Tom Jenson (R-London).

Representative Adrian Arnold (D-Mt. Sterling) said, "This Flex-E grant will be a big help for the fine folks of Powell County.  I am excited to see this area flourish and I hope this additional recreational activity will get more families out and spending time with their loved ones.”

The ARC Flex-E-Grant Program is a grant program providing limited, short-term financial assistance for projects that help communities and other eligible entities respond effectively to factors that contribute to economic distress.  This funding is designated to ARC distressed counties.  The ARC Flex-E-Grant Program is administered by GOLD.
