Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today a $16,275 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant for Metcalfe County.  The grant will be used for the renovations to the Metcalfe County Park and the Sulphur Well Park.

Funds will be used to install two new restrooms at Sulphur Well Park.  In addition, the Metcalfe County Park will have its restrooms renovated.

“These renovations will enhance the experience of Metcalfe County residents when visiting their local parks,” stated GOLD Commissioner Ellen Williams.  “Governor Fletcher is focused on meeting the needs and wants of local communities.”

“These two parks are important to the residents of Metcalfe County,” Senator Richie Sanders said.  “It is imperative that we focus on maintaining them so that they may be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Representative James Comer noted, “This grant comes at a great time for Sulphur County Park and the citizens of Metcalfe County will definitely benefit from these upgrades.”

The Land and Water Conservation Fund provides grant funds to protect important natural areas, to acquire land for outdoor recreation and to develop or renovate public outdoor recreation facilities such as camp grounds, picnic areas, sports and playfields, swimming facilities, boating facilities, fishing facilities, trails, natural area and passive parks.  The LWCF is funded by the National Park Service and administered by GOLD.
