Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today a $41,500 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant for Mercer County.  The grant will be used for the Anderson-Dean Skate Park Project.

The funds will be used to develop a skate park in Anderson-Dean Park.  A skate park is in high demand throughout Mercer County.

“Communities like Mercer County listen to the needs of their citizens and work to fulfill them,” noted GOLD Commissioner Ellen Williams.  “Governor Fletcher and this administration strive to heed the voices of our cities and counties to help them produce results.”

Senator Dan Kelly said, “Recreational opportunities improve the quality of living in an area.  I praise this administration for its focus on making these improvements become a reality.”

“Skating is not a new form of recreation, but skate parks are really just beginning to step into the limelight,” said Representative Milward Dedman.  “The skate park in Anderson-Dean will be a place that residents from around the county will be able to enjoy.”

The Land and Water Conservation Fund provides grant funds to protect important natural areas, to acquire land for outdoor recreation and to develop or renovate public outdoor recreation facilities such as camp grounds, picnic areas, sports and playfields, swimming facilities, boating facilities, fishing facilities, trails, natural area and passive parks.  The LWCF is funded by the National Park Service and administered by GOLD.
