| Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) announced today an $838,500 Community Development Block Grant for Lee County. The funds will be for construction of treated water transmission lines and a water storage tank project.
“As Kentucky grows and matures, we must take steps to improve and develop our infrastructure and services,” noted Governor Ernie Fletcher. “It takes the cooperation of local, state, and federal officials to ensure that necessary resources are available to raise our community’s standard of living.”
This water transmission lines and water storage tank project are part of an overall improvement of the water system including a new water treatment facility for Lee County. This project specifically funds the construction of a transmission line between the plant and a new water storage facility. Also a new 600,000 gallon tank will replace current 400,000 and 100,000 gallon water storage tanks that are to the point of disrepair.
Community Development Block Grants are federal monies procured through the efforts of Kentucky’s U.S. Congressional leaders. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development makes these funds available through GOLD, which administers the CDBG Small Cities program in Kentucky.
