Governor’s Office for Local Development Accepting Nominations for 2008 Spirit of Kentucky Award
FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 13,2008) — The Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) is now accepting online nominations for the fifth annual Commissioner’s Spirit of Kentucky award. The award is presented to the sponsor(s) of a public project that best demonstrates an innovative expression of multi-jurisdictional cooperation and cost effective use of resources.
“Our Spirit of Kentucky award singles out just one of many great collaborative public service efforts in our communities across Kentucky,” explains GOLD Commissioner Tony Wilder. “We take great pride in recognizing a significant, innovative project that not only makes a real difference for local citizens, but also embodies the spirit of true partnership.”
Projects eligible for nomination include those of government, public service, private non-profit or quasi-governmental groups or agencies. The project should exhibit multiple community entities working together to address a local need, problem or opportunity where the end result efficiently utilizes public assets and resourceful funding.
The deadline for nominations is Monday, June 30, 2008. Nominations must be submitted online at http://www.gold.ky.gov/localissues/spiritofkentucky.htm. The award will be presented at the Governor’s Local Issues Conference Luncheon, August 5, 2008 at Louisville’s Galt House East.
The City of Winchester’s Bluegrass Emergency Response Team (BERT) project received the Commissioner’s Spirit of Kentucky award in 2007. Other past recipients include the Green River Area Development District for the ConnectGRADD project, the Barren River Regional Training and Teleconferencing Center and the Lincoln Trail Area Development Districts’ Emergency First Response Equipment Purchase.
