| Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) announced today a $10,459 Recreational Trails grant for Floyd County. The funds will be used to construct two new trails in the area.
New Floyd County trails, the Elk Horn Recreational and Educational Park Switchback Trail and the Cattail Connection Trail, will be approximately two miles in length. The multipurpose paths will be part of a larger trail system and used for walking, jogging, hiking and bicycling. The surrounding communities will be able to enjoy their environmental, social, educational and recreational benefits.
“The citizens of Floyd County and the surrounding areas deserve to have well-planned recreational facilities for their use,” Governor Fletcher said. “I believe that the new trail system will enrich their lives and attract new families to the area.”
The Recreational Trails Program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and may be used to acquire land for recreational trails and to develop and renovate trails for both motorized and non-motorized use. Recreational Trails funding is administered by the Governor’s Office for Local Development.
