New State Local Debt Officer and State Local Finance Officer Named
Governor Ernie Fletcher and Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD)
Commissioner Ellen Williams are pleased to announce that Dan Waits, Executive Director of
the Office of Financial Management and Administration for GOLD has been named the State
Local Debt Officer and the State Local Finance Officer for the Commonwealth of
Kentucky. Waits will continue his duties as Executive Director in addition to these new
“Dan is a very capable, talented individual who will serve this capacity well. Local officials will find him well suited for these positions,” said GOLD Commissioner Ellen Williams.
The State Local Finance Officer’s duties include establishing statewide financial management guidelines as defined by statute. This position is appointed by Governor Fletcher. Commissioner Williams appoints the State Local Debt Officer. Kentucky state law requires that local governments report in writing to the State Local Debt Officer before entering into debt in the form of bonds and leases.
“I am honored to be asked to serve in this capacity,” said Dan Waits. “I look forward to working with local governments in making sure that their financial needs are met.”
Before joining GOLD, Waits worked for several of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world, including Asahi Glass Corporation and Johnson Controls. He has been with GOLD for a year and a half. Waits attended the Eastern Kentucky University. He and his wife live in Georgetown with their son.
