Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) have recommended approval of a $16,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant for the city of Columbia.  The funding will be used to renovate the existing plumbing at the Columbia City Park pool.

“The city of Columbia has worked diligently to provide a popular community pool for its citizens,” said Governor Fletcher.  “This grant, combined with previous efforts, will ensure that the facility is not only attractive, but properly maintained.”

The pool, which is the only public aquatic facility in Adair County, contains outdated plumbing which is prone to leaks.

“The city pool in Columbia was built several decades ago and has received no significant upgrades since,” said Senator Vernie McGaha (R-Russell Springs).  “This funding will provide a more sound and reliable pool facility for the people of Adair County.”

“I am pleased to see this project moving forward,” said Representative Russ Mobley (R-Campbellsville).  “I am confident that the citizens of Adair County will enjoy this facility for years to come.”

LWCF provides grant funds to protect important natural areas, to acquire land for outdoor recreation and to develop or renovate public outdoor recreation facilities such as camp grounds, picnic areas, sports and playfields, swimming facilities, boating facilities, fishing facilities, trails, natural area and passive parks.  LWCF is funded by the National Park Service and administered by GOLD.
