GOVERNOR FLETCHER AWARDS $1,000,000 TO BALLARD COUNTY FOR HOUSING REVITALIZATION
Funds to assist low income homeowners in replacing dilapidated housing
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher today awarded a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to Ballard County officials for the Ballard County Scattered Site Housing Revitalization Project. The grant will provide assistance to low income homeowners in Ballard County to replace some of the worst housing in Western Kentucky.
The CDBG funds are needed to match other committed funds applied to this project to ensure affordable, owner-occupied housing will be restored to Ballard County through reconstruction of as many of the homes that funding can offer.
“This grant funding gives Ballard County families the opportunity to restore their homes safely and effectively,” said Governor Fletcher. “This model of funding collaboration is needed to revitalize Kentucky housing.”
“This is an important investment in Ballard County” said. Sen. Bob Leeper (I-Paducah). “This investment will raise the quality of life of hundreds of people here.”
“Kentucky residents, regardless of income status, deserve the opportunity to live in safe and decent housing,” said Representative Steven Rudy (R-W. Paducah). “This grant will provide an upgrade in housing that will serve this community for many years in the future.”
Kentucky's U. S. Congressional leaders’ continued support of the CDBG program has made the funding available nationally as well as within the commonwealth. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) makes these funds available through the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD). Applications are accepted on a continual basis.
