First Lady Jane Beshear presents signed legislation at Blue Licks Battlefield State Park to promote Kentucky products
MOUNT OLIVET, Ky.– First Lady Jane Beshear today presented a signed copy of legislation that will help promote Kentucky grown products at Kentucky State Parks.
She gave a signed copy of House Bill 166 to Rep. Tom McKee of Cynthiana, the bill’s sponsor during the 2011 General Assembly, during a ceremony at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park near Mount Olivet.
“This legislation will help us make more people aware of the fine Kentucky food products that are available at the Kentucky State Parks,” said First Lady Jane Beshear. “We appreciate Representative McKee’s support and the support we get from other lawmakers.”
The bill, signed by Gov. Steve Beshear, will create a committee of state agency and agriculture officials to make recommendations on ways to better promote Kentucky products at Kentucky State Parks.
Kentucky State Parks purchased more than $275,000 in Kentucky Proud products in 2010 for its restaurants around the state.
“Kentucky State Parks are a great way to tell our guests about the food products produced by our farmers,” McKee said. “Our parks help promote tourism as well as agriculture in our communities.”
Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Marcheta Sparrow said Kentucky products are used at all 17 resort park restaurants across the state.
“We’re proud to be able to serve great food that is fresh and local,” Sparrow said. “Our guests appreciate food that’s from this area and it’s a great way to support our neighbors near the parks.”
