FRANKFORT, KY – The Governor’s Mansion will once again be the site of the Annual Easter Egg Roll at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 15, 2008.

“We are so happy to be able to continue this tradition for the citizens and children of Franklin County,” said First Lady Jane Beshear.

This year’s signature co-sponsors are the Frankfort Younger Woman’s Club and the Frankfort Tourist Commission.

“We are honored to help bring this event to the children of our community and those throughout the Commonwealth,” said Joy Jeffries, executive director of the Frankfort Tourist Commission. “The Easter Egg Roll is a great tradition and a wonderful opportunity to show families from across the state the how much our community has to offer.”

In its fourth year, the event includes a series of egg roll races across the lawn of the historic Governor’s Mansion, as well as refreshments. This year, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo will entertain guests with a book reading. In addition, participants will enjoy a number of interactive booths and exhibits, including an egg-dying and decorating booth sponsored by the Kentucky Egg Council and Cal-Maine Foods, Inc.

The majority of the day’s activities are open to all children; however, the Easter egg roll is limited to the first 500 children under 10 years old. Participants will receive a commemorative poster featuring artwork by Kentucky artist Sallie Clay Lanham and a special gift.

While the event is free and open to the public, Mrs. Beshear encourages participants to bring a new book to donate to Franklin County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).  This group advocates for abused and neglected children throughout the area and will distribute donated books to the children it serves.

“The Frankfort Younger Woman’s Club is incredibly proud to see this tradition continue,” said Laura Shelton Goins, the club’s event chair. “We believe it shows the dedication and commitment First Lady Jane Beshear has to serving the people of Kentucky.”

The Kentucky Retail Federation Insurance Agency, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Julie’s at Brighton Park and Keeneland have also joined as sponsors.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled but sponsors will be present from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to distribute goody bags.

If the event is canceled, organizers will make an announcement to Kentucky media by 9 a.m. that morning. Information about cancellation will also be available by calling (502) 695-4968 (add) after 9 a.m.
