FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRANKFORT, Ky. Governor Steve Beshear’s E-Transparency Task Force will meet on Thursday, October 2 at 10:00 a.m. in room 171 of the Capitol Annex.  Members of the public are encouraged to attend and offer their suggestions for Kentucky’s Open Door Web site, to be launched in January 2009.

The intent of Kentucky’s Open Door Web site is to provide a one-stop venue where citizens can review how their tax dollars are being spent, as well as obtain other vital information about state-funded programs.

Among the items to be discussed at Thursday’s meeting include:

  • A formal policy to determine what kinds of information will be provided on the Web site, and what kinds of information will be excluded due to privacy, confidentiality and other legal concerns;
  • A preliminary visual replication of the final site, demonstrating how charts, graphs and narratives on the budget process will be shared with the public; and
  • Interactive examples of how expenditure data can be accessed when the site goes live in January.

After these presentations and the input of Task Force members, the public will be encouraged to offer their comments and suggestions.

For those citizens unable to attend this meeting, a Web site has been established where the public can review the testimony presented at this meeting and offer their suggestions.  By Monday morning, October 6, taxpayers will be able to access this updated information and make comments at: http://finance.ky.gov/etrans.htm.
