| FRANKFORT, Ky.— More than 70,000 visitors have viewed the Kentucky Department of Revenue’s Internet listing of delinquent taxpayers since the department announced two weeks ago that it had begun posting the names of those businesses and individuals who owe back taxes to the commonwealth.
During the month of February, the Department of Revenue brought in more than $13.1 million in back taxes owed to the commonwealth, an estimated $500,000 of which it believes may be directly attributed to news accounts of the delinquent taxpayer Web site. This marks the 14th straight month of increased collections under Governor Fletcher’s administration. During calendar year 2004, Revenue collected more than $136 million in delinquent taxes, an increase of $35.2 million over 2003 total collections.
In addition to collections, the department has received a number of tips from individuals who have supplied updated contact information for those listed on the Web site. Individuals who have updated or additional information about the delinquent taxpayers listed on Revenue’s Web site may submit an anonymous tip at http://revenue.ky.gov/fraud.htm. Individuals who choose to include their contact information may do so, but it is not required.
The department has now updated its Web site to include the top 225 most delinquent businesses and individuals. To view this list, visit Revenue’s Web site at www.revenue.ky.gov <http://www.revenue.ky.gov>. Kentucky’s list will be regularly updated and expanded to include a larger number of delinquent taxpayers over time. Businesses and individuals who believe they may owe past due taxes and wish to keep their names off the delinquent taxpayer Web site should contact the Department of Revenue at 502/564-4921, ext. 5367.
