   FRANKFORT, Ky. – (April 8, 2011) – The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) invites banking leaders from across the state to attend “A Day with the Commissioner” on April 18, 2011, at the Olmsted in Louisville, Ky.

   Elizabeth Warren, assistant to the President and special advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will lead a question and answer discussion.  James Bullard, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, will give the luncheon keynote address. Other distinguished speakers include William F. Githens, president and CEO of The Risk Management Association, who will provide a look at risk management issues, and K.C. Conway, executive managing director for real estate analytics at Colliers International, who will give his outlook on the commercial real estate sector.

   “We are providing this venue for Kentucky’s community bankers to gather and discuss the key issues they face today, as well as to hear the latest from banking industry leaders,” said Charles Vice, DFI Commissioner. “Kentucky banks have performed well overall during the economic downturn, and it is important for them to prepare as the economy recovers. This event will help bankers look forward and focus on how to handle future challenges.”

   In addition to the guest speakers, a special panel discussion on “The Future of Community Banking” will be held.  Moderated by Robert Vance, secretary of the Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet, guest panelists will include Luther Deaton, president and CEO, Central Bank;  Julie Stackhouse, senior vice president, Banking Supervision and Regulation, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis; Charles Thayer, chairman and managing director, Chartwell Capital, Ltd., and Cynthia Young, partner, Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLC. 

   The program, which is co-sponsored by the Federal Reserve Banks of St. Louis and Cleveland, will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.  A complimentary continental breakfast and luncheon will be served. 

   DFI is an agency in the Public Protection Cabinet. It supervises the financial services industry by examining, chartering, licensing and registering various financial institutions, securities firms and professionals operating in Kentucky.
