Rare Hike to Tour Nature Preserve Closed to the Public
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Apr. 19, 2010) – Spring is a beautiful time to hike the hills along the Kentucky River.
Woods and Waters Land Trust, in partnership with The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC), are organizing a guided hike through River Cliffs State Nature Preserve in Franklin County on Sunday, April 25, beginning at 1 p.m.
The walk will start at the top of the river valley, make its way past diverse wildflower displays and end with an opportunity to explore the river terrace. Hikers are sure to see Braun’s rockcress, a federally endangered plant that is endemic to this section of the river, as well as purple phacelia, wild geranium and ginger.
The site is privately owned and closed to the public. It has been dedicated for long-term protection to the Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission.
There is no charge for the hike, but pre-registration is required. Please contact KSNPC Lead Botanist, Deborah White by calling 502-573-2886, or email Deborah.White@ky.gov. Directions to the preserve and answers to any questions will be provided at that time.
