FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 2, 2008) – The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC) will conduct its year-end quarterly public meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. EST in the KSNPC conference room, 801 Schenkel Lane, Frankfort. A highlight of the meeting will be the presentation of the commission’s Biological Diversity Protection Award, given annually to a person who has made a significant contribution to the protection of Kentucky’s biological resources.

KSNPC’s mission is to protect Kentucky’s natural heritage by identifying, acquiring and managing natural areas that represent the best-known occurrences of rare, native species, natural communities and significant natural features in a statewide nature preserve system; working with others to protect biological diversity; and educating Kentuckians on the value and purpose of nature preserves and biodiversity conservation. The commission inventories Kentucky for significant natural areas and protects the best examples in a state nature preserve system.

The meeting facility is accessible to people with disabilities. KSNPC will provide, upon request, reasonable accommodations including auxiliary aids and services necessary to afford individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in all programs and activities. To make special arrangements, contact Leslie Isaman at KSNPC by Dec. 5 at 502-573-2886 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST.

More information about the commission can be obtained by mail (KSNPC, 801 Schenkel Lane, Frankfort, Ky. 40601-1403), by telephone (502-573-2886) or via the World Wide Web (www.naturepreserves.ky.gov).
