A fire that killed a Nelson County man early yesterday was caused by defective electrical wiring that ignited flammable materials, the Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office has concluded.

The fire was traced to the area of an electrical outlet in the log home’s den, said Deputy Fire Marshal Mike Burke. Further inspection of the home’s electrical system revealed the wiring defect. Also joining in the investigation was Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Price.

The victim was identified by authorities as John Mudd, 44. A second occupant escaped unharmed.
