Harlan County Miner Killed in Mining Accident
A Knox County coal miner died Wednesday afternoon from injuries suffered in an underground mining accident caused by a rib roll. He has been identified as 42 year-old Jimmy R. Carmack of Barbourville, Ky. Carmack was a section foreman at the Lone Mountain Processing’s Clover Fork Number 1 mine near Holmes Mill in Harlan County.
The accident was reported to state officials at approximately 3:30 EDT Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators from the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing (OMSL) and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will continue their investigation today.
This is the fourth mine-related fatality in Kentucky in 2010.
