The Kentucky Division of Mine Permits has taken an action to rescind an amendment to a Leslie Resources Inc. surface mining permit located near Buckhorn Lake.  The amendment, issued in October 2005, would have added an additional 69 acres to an existing 1,075-acre surface mine.

Plans to expand mining activities arose when Leslie Resources Inc. obtained the 69 acres through a trade with the U. S. Forest Service.  Leslie Resources’ involvement in bankruptcy proceedings played a role in the decision to rescind.  The effect of the recision of the issuance of Permit No. 897-0346 Amendment 4 is the same as if it had never been issued.  No person or entity is authorized to engage in surface coal mining operations on the area to be added by Permit No. 897-0346 Amendment 4.
