Chemical munitions storage permit approved for Blue Grass Army Depot
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2005) - The Kentucky Division of Waste Management (DWM) has approved modification of Blue Grass Army Depot’s hazardous waste storage permit to include chemical munitions containing nerve and blister agents. The effective date will be Oct. 30, 2005.
The depot has had a permit for two container storage areas for non-chemical-warfare-agent hazardous waste. The facility has been storing munitions with nerve and blister agents under "interim status." The permit modification includes the storage of chemical munitions and related hazardous waste.
The permit was revised using public, facility, and agency comments submitted during a 45-day regulatory comment period and a public hearing held Aug. 30 in Richmond.
Copies of the modified hazardous waste storage permit are available for public inspection and review at the Blue Grass Chemical Stockpile Outreach Office, 301 Highland Park Drive, in Richmond, and at the Division of Waste Management, 14 Reilly Road, in Frankfort. DWM is an agency of the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet.
