FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 19, 2005) - The fifth meeting of the 404 Work Group will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. until approximately 5:45 p.m. EDT. The meeting will have classroom and field trip components.

Dr. Art Parola, professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of the Stream Institute at the University of Louisville, will give a presentation on stream geomorphology. Afterward, experts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will provide an introduction to wetlands delineation.

There will be a field trip to view a relocated stream in the Cedar Grove Business Park in Shepherdsville.  The group will also visit the Wilson Creek stream restoration project in Bernheim Forest and then travel to some nearby wetlands.

The work group is studying how Kentucky could issue environmental permits under the federal Clean Water Act Section 404 program. Section 404 regulates activities that result in a discharge of rock, soil, concrete or other fill material into waters of the United States.
