Environmental Permitting Work Group to meet
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2005) – The sixth meeting of the 404 Work Group will be held on Monday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m. EDT in the ground floor conference room of the Capital Plaza Tower, Frankfort.
Greg Pond, an aquatic biologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 3, will give a presentation on the ecological functions and values of streams. The presentation will begin at 9:15 a.m.
Lee Andrews, of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will give a regulatory program overview of the Clean Water Act Section 404 and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act. The presentation will begin at noon.
The work group is studying how Kentucky could issue environmental permits under the federal Clean Water Act Section 404 program. Section 404 regulates activities that result in a discharge of rock, soil, concrete or other fill material into waters of the United States.
