FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 6, 2005) – The Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet today received written notification from BioReclamation LLC that it is withdrawing its application for a permit for storage and processing of sewage sludge at a site near Nortonville in Hopkins County.

The company had applied for a Registered Permit-by-Rule for a project to turn sludge from Nashville, Tenn., into a substance that could be used for mine reclamation. The withdrawal of the application was effective immediately.

Lloyd Cress, commissioner of the Department for Environmental Protection, said the department’s Division of Waste Management had begun a review of the application to determine whether it complied with Kentucky’s environmental performance standards.

“In view of the withdrawal of the application, the planned public participation procedures will not be conducted,” Cress said.
