GOVERNOR FLETCHER ANNOUNCES $300,000 IN ENERGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SEED SOLICITATION FOR STATE UNIVERSITIES
Energy R&D Key Component of Governor’s Energy Strategy
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Fletcher announced today that a $300,000 solicitation for proposals has been released by the Kentucky Office of Energy Policy (KOEP). The funding is available to promote energy research and development at Kentucky’s public universities.
“Energy research and development is vital to Kentucky’s energy future,” stated Governor Fletcher. “By investing in our universities, we are positioning Kentucky to continue to responsibly develop our state’s energy resources in an environmentally friendly manner.”
The KOEP’s Energy Research, Development & Demonstration (ERDD) Program was established in 2005. The program is intended to increase energy research performed at Kentucky’s public universities, encourage information exchange between the universities and private industries, and aid the state’s universities in leveraging research funding from federal and private sources.
This is the second seed grant solicitation put forth by KOEP. In 2005, state universities were awarded $507,899 in seed grants to support energy-related projects. In addition, this program also supports matching grants designed to provide matches to help Kentucky’s public universities compete for federal dollars. $169,460 in matching grants has been awarded to leverage $629,683 in federal research funds.

Interested universities should contact Talina Mathews of the Office of Energy Policy at (502) 564-7192, to discuss the terms of participation.
