  The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded three brownfield grants to Kentucky totaling $1.9 million to fund the assessment and cleanup of properties with environmental problems.

• Student Artists Honored for Eco-Art Contest

  The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) is honoring the six winning 2012 Eco-Art Contest high school artists this week by presenting awards at the respective schools. The Kentucky students used the contest themes or categories of conservation, pollution prevention and environmental protection and submitted artwork using the media types of drawing/painting/print, mixed media, sculpture and photographs.

• Franklin County School Launches Alternative Fuels Lab

  The Franklin County Career and Technical Center (FCCTC) launched its alternative fuels lab with the production of its first batch of biodiesel Nov. 10, 2011. The biodiesel production at FCCTC was made possible by the Kentucky Biofuels for Schools Program, which encourages Kentucky high schools to teach, produce and use biofuels within their schools and community. Kentucky Biofuels for Schools is made possible by TogetherGreen and the Kentucky Division of Compliance Assistance (DCA).
