Thompson named legislative liaison for Education and Workforce Development Cabinet
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Secretary Helen Mountjoy today announced the appointment of Jim Thompson as legislative liaison for the cabinet. In this role, Thompson will promote legislation that supports education and workforce issues in the Commonwealth.
“I am pleased that Jim has joined the cabinet” said Mountjoy. “His experience as a former educator and legislator makes him a valuable addition to our team. I’m confident his knowledge and expertise will help move forward the cabinet’s agenda.”
Thompson, a retired school administrator, spent 28 years with the Meade County school district as a teacher, principal and instructional supervisor. He also served three terms (1999-2005) in Kentucky’s House of Representatives representing the 27th District.
“Education and workforce development play a critical role in advancing the state’s economy,” said Thompson. “At a time when Kentuckians need it most, I look forward to being an advocate for these issues.”
Thompson earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky and his Rank I from Western Kentucky University. He and his wife, Patsy, live in Battletown, Ky.
