Kentucky Association of Manufacturers’ 99th Annual Manufacturing Wage and Benefits Survey data collection phase to start

FRANKFORT, Ky.  — The Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet’s Department of Workforce Investment and the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers (KAM) are encouraging the state’s manufacturers to complete the 2010 Annual Manufacturing Wage and Benefits Survey from now through July 16.

IQS Research, a highly respected research firm in Louisville, is collaborating with KAM on the development of the wage and benefits survey for Kentucky’s manufacturing community. The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, South Central Kentucky Regional Economic Development Partnership and the Bluegrass Workforce Investment Board are also supporting the survey this year.

In addition, the Department of Workforce Investment is working with KAM to facilitate the production of a statewide report and set of regional reports to ensure that manufacturers have timely and accurate wage and benefits information such as paid vacation and sick time, health insurance and overtime pay when making hiring and promotion decisions.

Kentucky manufacturers will receive an e-mail invitation from IQS Research, which will contain easy-to-follow directions to register and participate in the survey. All information provided will remain strictly confidential, and all results will be presented in aggregate form, so as to not identify individual companies.

In addition to wage and benefits information, the survey will include questions about green jobs and what Kentucky manufacturers are doing or planning to do to make companies more environmentally friendly.

“This partnership will not only provide valuable real-time information to Kentucky manufacturers and partner agencies, but it will offer insight into strategies being undertaken to green manufacturing processes and products, and train employees in this new field,” said Beth Brinly, commissioner of the Department of Workforce Investment.

“We appreciate the Department of Workforce Investment’s support of KAM’s 2010 Wage and Benefits Manufacturing Survey and everything it is doing to help KAM increase the survey’s sample size of participating manufacturers,” said Greg Higdon, president and CEO of KAM.

The overall survey takes about two hours to complete, but it is divided into categories that take about five to 10 minutes each to finish. Participants can complete the entire survey at one time or fill out each category as time allows and resume the survey later. Participating manufacturers will receive a complimentary regional copy of KAM’s 2010 Manufacturing Wage and Benefit Survey report.

To receive an e-mail invitation and participate in the survey, interested manufacturers must contact Lori Ferree, data collections coordinator for IQS Research.  She can be reached by e-mail at Lferree@IQSResearch.com or by calling her at (502) 244-6600 ext. 302.
