Kentucky Department of Insurance assists Alabama following devastating storms

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 4, 2011) – The Kentucky Department of Insurance is sending three employees to Alabama to assist with disaster relief efforts.  Alabama Insurance Commissioner Jim Ridling requested help from other states in staffing disaster centers and responding to questions from the public.

“I am pleased that we were able to respond to a call for help from Alabama,” said Kentucky Insurance Commissioner Sharon P. Clark. “Just as we helped Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, we are eager to help another sister state during a time of crisis. Kentuckians have a long tradition of helping those in need.”

Clark said the three employees will leave Kentucky on Saturday, May 7, and will return on Friday, May 13.  All expenses will be paid by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Other states, even as far away as Hawaii, are expected to provide staff for the disaster effort.

Clark said adequate staff will be available in the Frankfort office to assist Kentucky consumers with any insurance needs.
