Welcome Home Ceremony for Lexington Unit
Lexington, Ky. – A welcome home ceremony for the Kentucky Army National Guard's 138th Fires Brigade will take place at approximately 12:30, EDT on Friday, June 27 in the hangar at TAC Air, 4029 Airport Rd # 100 in Lexington.
Commanded by Col. Billy Jack West, the 138th Fires Brigade arrived in Iraq in September 2007. While in Iraq the Soldiers of the the Lexington-based artillery unit supported Multi-National Division-Baghdad. Missions included securing the populace of Baghdad, advising the Iraqi Security Forces, and providing fire control for coalition artillery units.
Since Sept. 11, 2001, more than 10,000 members of Kentucky's Army and Air National Guard have deployed worldwide in support of the Global War on Terror.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The only vehicles authorized to park in the TAC Air parking lot will be news media and those with handicapped permits. General parking will be at the Maj. Gen. John R. Groves Armory located at 4301 Airport Rd, Lexington, Ky. Busses will take families to and from the airport.
The actual arrival time will be approximately noon. Due to flexibility in aviation scheduling, however, it is recommended that media arive at least one hour prior to the ceremony to ensure coverage of troops offloading the aircraft.
