Kentucky National Guard hosts departure ceremony for troops departing for Afghanistan

Ashland, Ky. -- The Kentucky Army National Guard will host a departure ceremony for the Soldiers of the 201st Engineer Battalion at 1pm EST, March 1, at the Boyd County Middle School Gymnasium in Ashland, Ky.
The 201st Engineer Battalion is made up of units from Ashland, Olive Hill, Cynthiana and Prestonsburg. Commanded by Lt. Col. Michael Ferguson, more than 480 Soldiers will depart for Fort McCoy, Wisc. on March 3, where they will train for approximately two months before deploying to Afghanistan. The unit's primary mission in Afghanistan will be road clearing and construction, removing obstacles and ensuring main supply routes remain open.
