• Two Kentucky students selected for national leadership academy

  Two college students from Kentucky have been selected to participate in an inaugural leadership program for GEAR UP alumni in Washington, D.C. in June. GEAR UP, or Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a federally funded college access and readiness program.
• Campuses confer estimated 61,472 degrees, credentials in 2012-13

  Officials at Kentucky’s public and independent colleges and universities estimate that they have conferred 61,472 degrees and credentials during the 2012-13 academic year, with historic levels continuing at the associate, baccalaureate, master’s and professional practice doctoral levels.

• Council caps college tuition increase at 3 percent

  The Council on Postsecondary Education approved a 3 percent ceiling for tuition increases for the coming academic year for in-state undergraduate students at Kentucky’s public colleges and universities. This represents the smallest average tuition increase for Kentucky public institutions in 15 years.
