Frankfort, Ky. (March 19, 2000) – Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner Al Parke today announced the promotion of Joel Dunlap to Deputy Warden at the Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP) in Eddyville.
“It’s always a positive thing when we can promote a career employee who has excelled in several positions during his or her time with the Department,” said Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner Al Parke. “We believe that Joel Dunlap will be a valuable asset to the management of the Kentucky State Penitentiary.”
Dunlap began his career at KSP as a Correctional Officer in June 1990. He was promoted to Sergeant in September 1994 and to Lieutenant in November 1996. In July 2000 Dunlap was assigned to the Office of Internal Affairs as a Lieutenant and later promoted to head that department as Administrative Specialist III. From July 2005 until his most recent promotion, Dunlap served as Unit Administrator II and was in charge of three units at various times.
During his 19-year career in Corrections, Dunlap has received numerous commendations for acts ranging from the discovery of dangerous contraband to his response during an inmate stabbing incident. He has also received commendation for his response during fires at the Penitentiary. Dunlap has been selected Employee of the Month on three occasions, received Distinguished Service Awards in 1995 and 2000 and was a recipient of a Commissioner’s Award in 1996.
