Doom Promoted to Warden
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Nancy Doom, a 17-year veteran of Corrections, has been promoted to warden of the Green River Correctional Complex in Central City effective July 1. Current warden Patti Webb is retiring from the position on July 31 after 28 years of service.
Doom is currently Deputy Warden of Programs at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville. In that role she oversees the prison’s medical department, inmate grievance procedures, inmate organizations and she also serves as the Public Information Officer for KSP.
“Nancy Doom is a seasoned professional who worked her way up through various positions at the Kentucky State Penitentiary,” said Corrections Deputy Commissioner James Schomig. “Her commitment and dedication has always stood out. I am confident that Nancy Doom will be successful as the new warden of Green River Correctional Complex.”
She began her career in corrections as a Classification and Treatment Officer at KSP. Other positions she has held at the prison include Offender Information Supervisor and Personnel Manager.
Doom is a member of the American Correctional Association (ACA), North American Association of Wardens and Superintendents (NAAWS), Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency (KCCD) and the Correctional Peace Officer Foundation.
In 2006, she was selected to participate in the first “Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program.” During this program, she was asked to identify a problem in Corrections and develop a plausible cost-cutting answer. Doom is currently working within Corrections and the Administrative Office of the Courts in an effort to implement and oversee a program to combine state and local court proceedings via internet video conferencing. Once completed, video conferencing will not only save millions in inmate transportation and staff costs, it will also increase community safety through the decreased need to bring inmates out of confinement.
Also in 2006, she was a recipient of one of the Kentucky Department of Corrections top awards, given annually to only four individuals, a “Commissioner’s Award,” presented during the KCCD conference.
A native of Lyon County, Doom and her husband of nearly 20 years, Greg, live in Crittenden County.
