Fred Wilson Promoted to Deputy Warden at Little Sandy Correctional Complex
Frankfort, Ky. (December 22, 2009) – Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner Al Parke today announced the promotion of Fred Wilson to deputy warden of the Little Sandy Correctional Complex (LSCC) in Elliott County, the state’s newest prison.
Wilson has experience in a multitude of security positions and has worked in four prisons, including the Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP), the state’s only maximum-security prison in Eddyville. His promotion at Little Sandy was effective Dec. 16th.
“Fred Wilson has the leadership ability needed for this job,” said Parke. “We needed someone with his type of institutional and security experience. The numerous security positions he has held throughout his career give him the skill set Little Sandy needs in a deputy warden.”
Wilson began his career at the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex (WKCC) in July 1989 as a correctional officer; he also worked at KSP before transferring to the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) in 1990. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1995 and to Lieutenant in 1999. During his years at EKCC he served in many supervisory positions on various shifts.
In 2005 he was promoted to Captain at Little Sandy Correctional Complex where he assisted in opening the new institution. In 2007 he was again promoted, to Unit Administrator I serving as the Pre-release Coordinator and Grievance Coordinator. In 2008 he was promoted to Senior Captain. While at LSCC he has also held positions as Shift Captain and Internal Affairs Officer. Throughout his career he has been involved in C.E.R.T. (Corrections Emergency Response Teams) and served as Co-Commander of the LSCC CERT team and as a firearms instructor and has received numerous service awards.
He resides in West Liberty with wife Brenda and their daughters Halley and Emily. He and his family attend the Index Community Church in West Liberty. He enjoys following his daughters in their sporting events.
