Whitley named Warden of Frankfort Career Development Center

Frankfort, KY -- Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner James Schomig today announced the promotion of Kimberly Whitley to warden of the Frankfort Career Development Center (FCDC). She has served as acting warden of the minimum-security prison since July 26 and has held deputy warden positions at FCDC, Blackburn Correctional Complex and Northpoint Training Center.
   “Kimberly Whitley is a seasoned employee who has demonstrated she has the leadership skills this institution needs,” said Schomig. “Whitley is an asset to not only that institution but the entire Department of Corrections management team.”
   Whitley began her career in 1986 in Central Office with the Planning and Evaluation Branch through the cooperative extension program at Kentucky State University. Since her initial employment, she has worked in a number of positions and agencies, to include: Corrections Central Office Offender Records; Classification and Treatment Officer at Northpoint Training Center; Probation and Parole Officer in Fayette County, Court Designated Worker for Fayette County Youth Services; Personnel Management Specialist with the Department of Libraries and Archives; and as a Institutional Personnel Administrator at Northpoint.
   She received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1987 and her master’s degree in public administration with a specialty in personnel management in 1990, both from Kentucky State University. Whitley is a 2001 graduate of the Governor's Minority Management Trainee Program and she holds a Certificate of Management Fundamentals. She has served on a number of Cabinet and Departmental committees and she is a member of the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency, American Correctional Association, Southern States Correctional Association and the Correctional Accreditation Managers’ Association.
   A native of Danville, she is the daughter of Roland and Frances Whitley.
